It was wonderful to see so many of you at our annual membership meeting in May. We had a great turnout, and it was terrific to see many old friends once again.
Additionally, May is the month when our Unit recognizes the achievements of many of its fine players from the previous year. The Helen Shanbrom Ace of Clubs contest recognizes achievements at the club level. It is named in honor of Shanbrom, a Grand Life Master from Florida who won her category 20 times. Only masterpoints won at clubs are counted for these races, which are held at the National, District, and Unit levels.
The Mini McKenney contest, named after former ACBL Chief William McKenney, recognizes members who have won the most masterpoints during the calendar year. All "pigmented" points are counted, excluding points earned online. These races are held at the National, District, and Unit levels, and recipients are presented with a medallion representing their achievement.
Last year, ACBL introduced a new category, highlighting the winners of the Ace of Virtual Clubs (ACBL Virtual Clubs only). Our very own Lawrence Sherman, along with Marjorie O'Malley and Charles O'Malley, secured the second position in their category nationally. Larry achieved an impressive 906.73 Masterpoints, while Charlie O'Malley earned 655.53, and Marjorie received 632.52 Masterpoints.
To the following 2023 award recipients, a big congratulations from all of us! You should have received an email from our Unit President congratulating you on your great achievement. Your Ace of Clubs certificate and/or Mini McKenney medallion will be handed to you at the next physical get-together. If you missed the awards presentation, your Ace of Clubs certificate and/or Mini McKenney medallion will be mailed to you.
